Harry Kane X-rays Bayern coach Tuchel
MUNICH – England captain Harry Kane has spoken highly of Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel and said he joined the Bundesliga champions out of conviction and not time pressure two weeks ago.
“When we met in summer his energy immediately impressed me. Thopmas Tuchel is full of ideas, he has a great personality. It was important for me to have a good relationship with the coach,” Kane told Sunday paper Bild am Sonntag.
“The human and professional aspects of the two of us simply fit.”
Kane, 30, joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur for a base fee of around €100 million ($108 million) with time running out after he reportedly wanted clarity about his future before the start of the Premier League season.
But he insisted the transfer on the eve of Spurs’ league opener “was not made because of time pressure, but out of conviction” as he hopes to win titles that have so far eluded him.
“To win these first trophies is very important for me. I hope that will be the case already this season,” Kane said.
The England and Spurs record scorer said he was not bothered by the Bundesliga record price tag but rather wants to be a team leader, score goals and set them up.
“I am extremely grateful to Bayern for never letting up. They have great confidence in my strength. But I don’t want to look too much at that number. I don’t have the transfer fee in mind, that doesn’t change my approach,” he said.
Kane scored and had an assist as Bayern opened the Bundesliga season with a 4-0 victory at Werder Bremen. Their second match is later Sunday against Augsburg.
