Ukrainian authorities seize 66 Kiev Pechersk Lavra buildings, evicts residents
MOSCOW – Not less than 66 Kiev Pechersk Lavra buildings have been sealed by authorities in Ukraine, while believers are being forcefully evicted.
Few weeks ago, the Russian Synod had blown the lid that authorities in Ukraine in conjunction with UNESCO agreed to move precious Kiev Pechersk Lavra to EU museum, but UNESCO has since denied involvement in the deal to remove the items from Ukraine.
The latest is that Ukraine’s authorities have seized several buildings of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) monastery on the territory of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, attorney Nikita Chekman, who represents the UOC interests, said on Thursday.
“The monastery’s buildings have reportedly been seized,” he wrote on his Telegram channel
Besides, there are online video showing Ukraine reserves backed up by Police using force against believers of the canonical UOC in the Kiev- Pechersk Lavra.
Representatives of the reserve, accompanied by police officers, were reported to have torn the locks of the buildings, moved in and forcefully evicted them.
Many resisting them were pinned to the floor by the armed men like a criminal and forcefully moved into a nearby van.
