IBB speaks on his choice of candidate
LAGOS – Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, IBB has broken his silence on his preferred presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 general election.
IBB spoke just few days after his senior in the military and former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo endorsed Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party as his choice for the job.
IBB, who rarely speaks said he is not against any political party or candidate but that he finds it offensive for a candidate to say it his turn to rule Nigeria and that such a candidate will not have his support.
“I am not against any political party or any political candidate; however, if the reason you want to attain the role of leadership is because you think it’s your turn; or it should remain in a certain geo-political zone. You don’t have my support. I am who I am. #rankadede”, IBB said on his social media handle.
Earlier, IBB eulogized Obasanjo whom he said will forever be a true elder stateman and boss in the military, adding that he respects him and his choice of endorsement ahead of the 2023 general election
“Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo will forever be a true elder statesman and a boss in the military. No serving General in the Nigerian Army today joined the military earlier than 1982.
“By then, Obasanjo had already finished his military career. I respect him a lot, with his endorsement”, he said.
