LAGOS, Nigeria –  It was an evening of fun, networking and entertainment as the fifth edition of the Pop Culture Africa awards (pcaa2022) was held at the Reserve place, Victoria Island Lagos.

The awards, which had notable events practitioners and young African personalities in attendance, were held on a day which also marked the fifth anniversary of Poptv Events Africa.

The Senior Editor for Africa, CNN, Stephanie Busari was honoured with the African Woman of the year for her outstanding and inspirational contributions to global trends and telling the African story on the world stage.

In another honorary recognition, the African Icon of the year was given to the South African / US based comedian and host, Trevoh noah for his gallant strides in the events hosting and entertaining scene shone globally.

Other voting-category awards were given such as the Event host of the year, Event planner of the year, Event of the year, young African in Entrepreneurship as well as Technology.

The Creative Director, Chinedu Nmegwah, while appreciating guests present highlighted the need to reward excellence in the event industry especially as the PCAAs is a pioneer in the field of rewarding events practitioners and African exceptional personalities.

At the event which was hosted by the prolific comedian, Chimefrancis, the Creative Director also hinted the start of a new era for the awards from next year with the introduction of categories targeted at spectacular African stories as projected by Africans.

“With the introduction of the Young African series which saw awards for African in tech, sports and entrepreneurship, there is a need to shed more light on Africans doing great things in Africa at very their young age”, he says

Other highlights were performances, interview sessions and a charitable cause session where an NGO, The Giftbox to empower an African Child (GEAC) were on ground to enlighten the guest of their drive towards taking street children out of the streets and back to school.

Some winners at the evening included- JustDebs events as the Event planner of the year, MC Longman as Event Host of the year, Slymshady as Event entertainer of the year, Chioma Aniagolu as Young African in Entrepreneurship and other categories.

Pop Culture Africa Awards is the first of its kind that celebrates the Events industry and its personalities.

Over the years, there has been lots of events and the growth of the industry propelled to greater heights by creative and entertaining personalities and these events have not had a platform where they are celebrated and recognized for their outstanding nature as well as the efforts put into their execution.

So #PCAA as it shortly called is a platform to appreciate the hands behind a successful event and celebrate the best of events across Nigeria with intentions to expand into the African space.
