Ohaneze VP urges bloggers to restore Nigeria to past glory
ONITSHA, Anambra – Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide, Chief Damian Ogene -Okeke has urged media professionals to do everything possible to restore the country to it’s past glory.
Ogene -Okeke made the call on Friday at blogger summit organised by the Nigerian Union of Journalists NUJ , Anambra state at it’s secretariat .
He appealed to the bloggers to use their position to educate and change the country for good where things work effectively for all .
According to him, the elders in the country have disappointed the youths by using religion and tribe to perpetuate themselves in power, thereby creating disaffection among the citizens .
“I don’t believe in tribe or religion. This is what the failed elders have been continually used to divide us in order to continue in power. The divide and rule is not peculiar to any tribe and religion, but across all zones.
“Please use your blog to discourage these people from killing the country. We don’t have guns to fight them but your instrument will change the mindset of our elders to good ” he said.
He also urged the youths to stand up and fight for a good country that would provide for all. Ogene-Okeke said that elders have dealt with the youths and they have failed the country especially the youths.
“The youths must be encouraged to take up their position so that the elders will go into retirement. Theses old leaders started leadership at 30 to 40 and today they are 80 to 90 years and still clinch to power.
They called 40 to 50 years man or woman a child without experience ” he said. He urged the youths to rise up and take up the fight to reposition the country where everybody would be treated equally as a citizen.
According to him, the country has collapsed and the youths need to come up and reposition the country.
“Nobody is save in the country today ,if Abuja , the seat of government could be attacked with ease, nobody is save . It is time we build a better Nigeria for everybody” he said.
Speaking at the occasion, the chairman of Anambra state NUJ Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu urged the bloggers to do their jobs diligently for the good of the country.
According to him, the bloggers should compliment the traditional media to build a viral country. He also urged the bloggers to be careful with the kind of news they carry , noting that they should avoid sensational story that are capable of creating problems for the society .
