ONITSHA, Anambra – A group known as Igbo Reawakening Forum (IRF) has appealed to Nigerians to consider Igboman of south-east extraction for the president of the country.
The group made the appeal, shortly after it’s executive meeting in Awka Anambra state capital at the weekend. It said that it is the turn of South East to produce president of the country and urged other ethnic groups to support the move for a better Nigeria.
The chairman Board of Trustees of IRF , Dr. Nkwo Nnabuchi who spoke to journalists urged Nigerians to listen and consider the persuasions and arguments of Ndi Igbo that it is their turn to produce the next president of the country.
” The Nigeria civil war ended in 1970 and it is 52 years today. The Igboman from south east geopolitical zone has not been considered worthy enough to be the president of the country. We the Igbo , we consider it proper, and appropriate that Nigeria needs us, just like we need Nigeria.
“Our people are found in every part of the country. We have over four millions Igbo in Lagos , more than three millions in Kano and they are scattered everywhere in the country. We are part and parcel of the country. We consider it appropriate and equitable that we should be considered for the presidency of Nigeria.
We believe in one united Nigeria that is anchored on justice, fairness and equity ” he said. Nnabuchi who was the former Commissioner for Works in Anambra state said that despite the fact that Igbos were defeated in the war, they still believe in one united Nigeria and live and work towards the unity ,development and progress of the country.
On whether , the group has any party or person in mind, he said what they want is president of Nigerian from Igbo extraction in south East.
“We are talking about Igboman of south east extraction becoming president of Nigeria with or without party. There are alot of qualified persons in the zone to occupy the position . The north, South , West and others have had their slots, it is our turn this time ” he said
On issues of insecurity in the South east , he said that Nigeria has security challenges everywhere and not peculiar to eastern part alone.
“There is insecurity in the north east ,insecurity in south west, south -south ,Lagos and every where in the country. Even in the president state Katsina , there is insecurity. Abuja too has security challenges. security cannot be the reason to deny the Igbo the right to produce president of the country” he stated
He also stated that , the Igbo have strong confident in God for the struggle because only He knows how to give Power to people .
Others present at the forum’s meeting were Chief Uche Ufearoh, Chairman of National working committee (NWC) Mr Nduka Aguofia , the Secretary of BoT, Dr Ejike Ogoegbunam; and Lady Dominica Igwulume.
