BENIN – Yoruba nation campaigner, Mr. Sunday Igboho was temporarily released from prison earlier today. Sunday Igboho who has been in detention in Benin Republic was released this afternoon to attend to his medical needs in a Beninese hospital.

However, the news has been received in Nigeria as his total release from detention in Benin where he has been on trial.

Communications Secretary to Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, Akintoye broke the news that the activist was released.

Also speaking, a human rights activists, Simon Ekpa  said he has spoken to him, and congratulated the Oduduwa freedom fighter. He also thanked President of Benin Republic for releasing him.

“I have just spoken to my brother & friend Chief Sunday Igboho few minutes ago on the phone and I can confirm he is a free person. I must thank the President of Benin  for his role in freeing Chief Igboho, the next is our Leader MNK. Congratulations to my Oduduwa! Freedom!”, he said.

However, we gathered  that this is just a temporary respite for the freedom fighter.  According to his lawyer, he was released to attend to his medical needs in a hospital in Benin Republic”.

Yomi Alliyu said:  “I am to inform you that Chief Sunday Adeyemo, a.k.a Igboho, has been released from prison to his medical practitioners under the agreement that he should not leave the medical centre or Cotonou for any reason.

“Praises should be given to two prominent Yoruba personalities to wit: Prof. Wole Soyinka and Prof. Akintoye for this turn around in our client’s matter,” he said.

Sunday Igboho was arrested by International Police Criminal Organisation on Monday, July 19, 2021  at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, the Republic of Benin on his way to Germany.

However, his trial has been adjourned indefinitely in Benin and kept in prison without any charge.
