ABUJA, Nigeria – At last, the long awaited Electoral Act Amendment Bill was today signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari, raising hope for a more credible presidential election in 2023.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had raised apprehension that the 2023 election may not hold following the delay in signing the electoral act.
The delay had made it impossible for INEC to release timetable for political parties to conduct primaries for candidates to emerge for the 2023 general election.
Recall that President Muhammed Buhari had on about three occasions reneged on his promise to sign the Amended Electoral Act, following areas of disagreement with the National Assembly.
However, all the fears were today laid to rest.
