JOS, Plateau, Nigeria – Not less than seven people were killed on Sunday night when a gunman opened fire at a local wine drinking joint in Nding Community, Barkin Ladi Local Government, Plateau State.
Five people died on the spot while two others died later at the Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos. Speaking on the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Terna said five people died of the shootout, while Media and Information Officer, Operation Safe Haven, Major Adam Umar said two other people later died in the hospital.
He said the taskforce had received a distress call and moved to the area but that the attacker fled before they arrived . He said the major problem confronting the task force was lack of timely and accurate information from community members. He urged youths in the hinterlands to form vigilante groups that would liaise with security agents in tackling security issues.
