MAKURDI, Benue – Not less than seven people have been killed in Markurdi, Benue State when gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked Internally Displaced Persons(IDP) camp at  Abagena in Makurdi Local Area of Benue State.

The development earlier today forced youths into the streets protesting the development, blocking the Makurdi-Lafia Road.  While addressing the youths, Benue state Governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom called on President Muhammadu Buhari to live up to his responsibility of protecting Nigerians.

He described the attack on the IDP camp as inhuman, barbaric and unacceptable, calling for urgent actions to check activities of herders in Nigeria. He attributed rapid rise in insecurity in the country to failure by government to take issue of the herders seriously.

He said that in the last two weeks, over seventy persons had been killed in Makurdi Local Government alone while various communities across Benue are suffering attacks from herdsmen.
