August 11, 2015 – At least five people have been confirmed dead and several others injured as two trailers crashed into a passenger bus and a moving train in different areas, Agege and Lekki/Epe axis within the Lagos metropolis.
The Agege incident according to officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency ( LASEMA) claimed two lives and it occurred around 8:45pm Monday as the driver of the trailer with registration number PKM 180 XA (Yobe) attempted to drive through the railways crossing enroute Oko-Oba Abatoire.
We gathered that those who lost their lives where those hanging loosely outside and on top of the coaches even as the train cruises at very top speed before colliding with the trailer.
At Lekki, at least three people were killed early Tuesday morning when a passenger bus crashed into a moving trailer on the Lekki / Ajah expressway.
We gathered that the incident took place at 3:30am involving the trailer which was conveying an earth moving vechile (tractor) to construction site when the passenger bus collided with the truck In attempt to overtake the truck along the Lekki/Epe axis.
Director of Fire, Lagos State Fire Service, Engr. Rasaq Fadipe who confirmed the incident at 3:30am said the three males on board the bus were still trapped within the wreck as fire men struggle to retrieve their dead bodies as at that time.
Meanwhile, the incident at Agege engendered heavy traffic gridlock on Tuesday night in Agege and its environs as motorists spent over four hours navigating through the inner streets to get to their destination.
It took several hours before the police, officers of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and others could clear the road for free flow of traffic.
As at Tuesday morning, a crowd still formed in the area with people discussing the accident while the trailer was impounded and parked in front of the Railway Police Station.
General Manager, LASEMA, Michael Akindele confirmed that two people that died were hanging on the train and lost grip on impact.
He identified those dead in the Agege incident as Saka Nagim and Segun Adebambo and appealed to residents to stop hanging on moving train.
