43 Passengers Feared Killed as TransAsia Airline Crash-lands

February 4, 2015 – At least 23 passengers were confirmed killed and 20 others missing on Wednesday when a TransAsia Airways plane crash-landed into a shallow river shortly after take-off from Taipei airport.

Government officials confirm that 20 people are missing aboard the plane which was carrying 58 passengers besides crew members.

At least 15 people survived the dramatic crash when the plane meandered between buildings before crashing upside down in a Taiwan shallow river.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” Chen, a volunteer said of the series of air disaster that has hit the airline in recent times.

Emergency rescue officials crowded around the partially submerged fuselage of flight GE235, lying on its side in the river.

Speaking at a news conference, chief executive of TransAsia, Peter Chen apologized to passenger and crew members for the unfortunte incident. TransAsia is Taiwan’s third-largest carrier.
