BERLIN – Germany’s Emanuel Buchmann and Nils Politt have been named in Bora-hansgrohe’s line-up for July’s Tour de France while fellow German John Degenkolb will ride the famous race for a ninth time with DSM.
Top German team Bora-hansgrohe announced seven of their riders on Thursday for the July 1-23 race, which begins in Bilbao and finishes as usual in Paris. Bachmann was fourth overall in 2019 and Politt won a stage in 2021.
As well as the German duo, Australian team leader Jai Hindley, Austrian Marco Haller, Luxembourg’s Bob Jungels and sprint duo Jordi Meeus and Danny van Poppel are included.
Indications are that Ireland’s Sam Bennett, the 2020 green jersey winner in the points classification, will not take part this year.
The last place on the team will go to a mountain specialist, with a decision due at the weekend.
Germany’s Maximilian Schachmann, Columbian Sergio Higuita and Belgian talent Cian Uijtdebroeks look to be battling for the spot.
Meanwhile classic specialist Degenkolb – who won one Tour stage in 2018 – takes his place in a DSM team also featuring Australian hope Sam Welsford.
