IKORODU, Lagos, Nigeria – At least 3 persons have been confirmed dead when a boat conveying 20 passengers capsized in the Lagos Lagoon. The boat, we gathered was conveying passengers from Oke Ira Nla to Bayeku in Ikorodu, Lagos when the unfortunate incident occurred.
We gathered that 17 others have been rescued from the scene. We are told that the boat belongs to Edaolaropin/Bayeku Association.
Speaking on the incident, General Manager, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr. Damilola Emmanuel who confirmed the incident said the boat capsized when it hit an unidentified object under water.
“LASWA sympathizes with the families of the deceased and the Agency is committed to achieving a zero incident rate on the waterways through enforced regulations and thorough risk management culture”, he said,
