JEDDAH – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the incursion by the Israeli extremist minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, and hundreds of extremist settlers into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The OIC views the incursion as desecration of the mosque compound under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces, describing it as provocation of the sensibilities of the entire Muslim world and a flagrant violation of relevant United Nations resolutions.
The OIC warned against the continued Israeli occupation’s policies based on aggression, settlement, annexation, displacement and attempts to impose an alleged Israeli sovereignty on the West Bank as well as schemes to change the historical and legal status of Islamic holy sites, particularly the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The OIC also asserted that Israel, the occupying power, has no sovereignty over Palestinian land, including the Occupied Al-Quds and its holy sites and that the entire area of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is the exclusive place of worship for Muslims.
The OIC also condemned in the strongest terms the growing crimes of the Israeli occupation against the staff of humanitarian organizations, the United Nations and the press in the Gaza Strip, the latest being the massacre few days ago of displaced people at the ÜNRWA clinic in Jabaliya camp, north of the Gaza Strip, resulting in the martyrdom of 19 citizens, among them 6 children and scores of wounded people and the assassination of several staff members of the Palestinian Red Cross and Civil Defence and the United Nations in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip. The OIC described this as a continuation of war crimes demanding accountability in accordance with international criminal law.
The OIC called on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to assume its responsibilities by compelling Israel, the occupying power, to end its unending violation of the sanctity of holy sites and freedom of worshipand to immediately and totally stop the genocide, forced displacement and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people.
