LAGOS, Nigeria – History was made yesterday as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) appointed its first female National Deputy President, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde, to chair the planning committee for its 70th-anniversary celebration.

The decision, announced by NUJ President Comrade Alhasan Yahya, marks a significant milestone in the Union’s commitment to inclusivity and gender representation in leadership.

Dr. Oyetunde’s selection to spearhead the anniversary celebration underscores her reputation as a visionary leader with a track record of dedication and excellence.

Speaking at the inauguration of the nine-member committee, President Yahya emphasized that the event would highlight the Union’s evolution, achievements, and the vital contributions of its members over the past seven decades.

In her response, Dr. Oyetunde embraced the responsibility with enthusiasm, acknowledging the two-month timeline for preparations and calling on her committee members to be proactive.

“This is a call to service, and together, we will ensure that this anniversary is one for the history books,” she stated.
