AWKA, Anambra – The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, announced on Monday that divisional police officers and other security agencies across the state have been directed to conduct massive raids and searches in targeted areas.

CP Orutugu emphasized that these operations are part of the state’s broader security strategy, aiming to enhance public safety.

He urged the public not to complain if they see police or other security personnel conducting raids or stop-and-search operations.

According to him, these measures are designed to ensure peace, security, and calm in the state and its communities.

The commissioner issued the directive during the launch of the “Udo Ga Achi” security operation, which involves collaboration between the police, the Nigerian Navy, the military, the Immigration Service, the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Correctional Centres, the Department of State Services (DSS), Anambra Vigilante Services, and the people of Anambra.

The initiative is aimed to strengthen security efforts, heighten vigilance, and restore public confidence in the safety of all residents.

“Operation Udo Ga Achi is focused on eliminating kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state,” CP Orutugu stated.

He said the operation will be intelligence-driven, featuring stop-and-search activities and increased policing efforts throughout the state.

He added that while some people may question the police’s actions during such operations, it is important to remember that they are simply carrying out their duties.

However, CP Orutugu also acknowledged that some police officers may engage in misconduct or indiscipline.

He encouraged the public to report any such incidents directly to him.

“My contact details are widely available, and if I do not answer your call, please send me a message with the officer’s details,” he said.

The CP further explained that the purpose of the programe is to reassure Ndi Anambra and residents that, after reviewing the state’s policing capabilities, they have developed strategies to curb serious crimes such as armed robbery and kidnapping, particularly during the Easter period and beyond.

He assured the public that the police, as the lead agency in internal security, have implemented measures for zero tolerance toward kidnapping and violent crimes.

“This operation is designed to encourage Ndi Anambra to return home for the festive season,”

“Anambra people are hardworking, and after their hard work, they know how to enjoy life. It is unfortunate that, due to security challenges, Anambra—once the hub of enjoyment—is becoming a shadow of itself.”he stated.

The CP reiterated that security efforts in the state are a collective responsibility. “No one entity can claim full credit for the security of the state. This operation involves the military, the navy, immigration, civil defence, the DSS, the road safety corps, and most importantly, Ndi Anambra themselves, who are committed to working with the security agencies by sharing information that can lead to the arrest and prosecution of criminals,” he said.

He also acknowledged that the state governor, Charles Soludo, had launched “Operation Udo Ga Achi,” with security agencies now focusing on ensuring zero incidents of kidnapping, robbery, and other crimes, especially during Easter. The CP stressed that this strategy, when implemented, will provide Ndi Anambra with the confidence to return home for the upcoming festive seasons, such as Easter and Christmas.

“We are asking Ndi Anambra to provide us with the necessary information to ensure success,”

“This initiative also includes collaboration with the entertainment sector, women, and various other community groups.”he added.

CP Orutugu reassured the public that the security forces are well-motivated and committed to reclaiming public spaces, regularly reviewing and adjusting their strategies as needed.

Speaking at the event, Kingsley Ezika, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security and Anti-Cult, commended the security operatives for coming together to combat insecurity.

“If we work together, we will have a secure state. I encourage all laws to be activated to fight crime in the state,” he said.

Ezika also called on Ndi Anambra to show appreciation and support for the security personnel working tirelessly to ensure safety.

“Whatever you are doing, please extend your support to the security forces to help them achieve success,” he urged.

Chairman of the Police Community Service Commission, Okereke Okechukwu, described the launch of the operation as a noble initiative.

“Everyone needs security, especially within their homes,”

“We must join forces to fight crime in our state because a crime we overlook today may affect us tomorrow.”he said.

Okechukwu commended CP Orutugu and other service chiefs for their leadership and called on the state government to provide more support.

He suggested that the government should consider installing CCTV cameras, utilizing geographic data, and supplying operational vehicles for the security agencies.

He also praised the security forces for their dedication, even when they are off duty. “I promise to provide every assistance necessary to support this wonderful initiative,” he added.
