Police officer dismissed over contact with sex workers

LONDON – A Metropolitan Police Officer, Shabul Miah has been dismissed without notice for using his work phone to contact sex workers.

At a misconduct hearing on Friday, 28 March, PC Shabul Miah was found to have used his Met Police issued mobile phone to procure the services of escorts and sex workers from 5 April to 12 October 2024.

The hearing heard Miah, who was attached to the North East Public Protection unit, sent and received a significant number of text messages to mobile numbers that were linked to sexually explicit websites.

Some of these messages were exchanged whilst Miah was on duty.

Chief Superintendent Dan Card, who leads the North East London policing team, said:

“PC Miah’s use of work-issued equipment for his own personal sexual gratification was deeply inappropriate.

“I hope this outcome shows we will not tolerate such behaviour and won’t hesitate to take action against those who do not reach the standards we expect from our officers.”

The hearing panel contended PC Miah behaved in a manner that was likely to bring discredit upon the Met, as well as undermine public confidence.

His conduct was proven to amount to gross misconduct by breaching the standards of professional behaviour in relation to discreditable conduct and he was dismissed without notice.

He will now be placed on the barred list held by the College of Policing. Those appearing on the list cannot be employed by police, local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct or His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
