FirstBank inaugurates breathtaking 43 storey new headquarter at Eko Atlantic City, Lagos

EKO ATLANTIC CITY, Lagos – It was indeed a historic day for Nigeria, more especially for the FirstBank brand, following the groundbreaking ceremony of the certified green 43 storey new headquarters of the bank at Eko Atlantic City, Lagos. The event is one of the activities marking the 130 years of bank’s existence, innovation, growth, commitment and excellence in driving Nigeria’s financial evolution since 1894.
The new headquarter, when completed will be the tallest building in Nigeria and one of the tallest in Africa, going by what Architect Marwan, who designed the structure said at the ceremony.
“When finished it will be one of the best towers not only in Africa but around the world”, he said, adding it will come with open spaces free of columns with breathtaking features.
Speaking during the event, which had in attendance, the Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, governors in the south west, former President of t he Nigerian Senate, Sen. Abubakar Saraki , Ambassador Gilbert Chagori and his brother Ronald Chagori, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, FirstBank Group, Mr. Olusegun Alebiosu described the event as momentous, adding that it will reposition the bank for the future, and that it remains ‘a beacon of our heritage and commitment to the future’.
Chairman FBN Holdings, Mr. Femi Otedola said FirstBank will continue to be a legacy to behold as it deepens investment in technology and other areas in Nigeria and Africa
In his remarks, Chairman of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote congratulated Femi Otedola and the FBN group for the heart to build ‘this massive structure’.
“ I am sure other banks will follow because FirstBank is always first”, he said, adding that the management of the bank is bold and doing well in terms of performance with support of from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He said the project will open up Eko Atlantic City and that he will also follow up with an office in Eko Atlantic City. “I am being challenged by Femi to come but I will come very soon having delivered the refinery, I will come but I am at rest now”, he said, adding that Eko Atlantic City will be the new capital of Lagos.
Speaking in behalf of his brother, Ambassador Gilbert Chagori, who was also present at the occasion, Mr. Ronald Chagori thanked Femi Otedola for the courage to start what he described as a fantastic project.
He recalled Femi Otedola’s vows to build first bank to be the no 1 bank in Africa and make it grow bigger and bigger. He described Eko Atlantic city as everybody’s city, adding “ we will put our hands together to make it the real financial city of Nigeria and Africa”.
Also present at the historic event was the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and his counterpart from Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, deputy governors and Daisy Danjuma among others.
