Fatal accident claims 6 lives in Anambra

AWKA, Anambra – A fatal accident on Sunday at the Upper Iweka axis of Onitsha, Anambra State, has claimed the lives of six people and left several others injured with varying degrees of severity.
The incident occurred around 9 p.m. at the Upper Iweka junction in Onitsha.
Eyewitnesses reported that the accident was caused by the loss of control of a truck, which subsequently rammed into pedestrians, two tricycles, and a commercial bus filled with passengers.
Confirming the crash, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the police had taken control of the scene.
He explained that the purpose of the police presence was to maintain order in the area and to facilitate investigations into the incident.
“The Anambra State Police Command has taken over the scene of a fatal motor accident that occurred on March 15, 2025, at 9 p.m. at the Upper Iweka axis of Onitsha. The accident claimed the lives of six individuals and left several others with varying degrees of injury. The goal of the police presence is to ensure order in the area and to aid in the investigation of the incident,” Ikenga said.
He further noted that some of the injured victims are currently receiving treatment at a hospital, while the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the morgue.
According to him,relatives of the victims have been notified and briefed about the incident.
Ikenga expressed condolences to the families and friends of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery.
He also took the opportunity to caution drivers to always perform necessary checks before taking to the road.
