PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, has led a delegation from the Commission to condole with the family of the late Chief Edwin Clark.

Ogbuku, accompanied by some Directors of the Commission, visited the Clark family in Abuja to sypathise with them, saying, “We join all Nigerians in mourning the glorious exit of the foremost nationalist and Niger Delta leader.

He described the late leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, as a rare gem for the people of the Niger Delta region, especially for his unrelenting advocacy for the region and Nigeria’s unity and development.

Ogbuku said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of our revered leader and our thoughts and prayers are with the Clark family during this difficult time. We are, however, consoled that the foremost Ijaw leader left an indelible footprint on the sands of time.

“He lived a worthy life and left legacies behind. Some of the legacies are what we are benefiting from in NDDC. His advocacy contributed to the establishment of the NDDC, an interventionist agency saddled with the responsibility of facilitating the rapid development of the Niger Delta region.”

“We also have the PANDEF, a sociocultural Organisation that brings together all ethnic nationalities in the Niger Delta region.”

“For us in the NDDC, we do not merely mourn the departure of a great man; we grieve the loss of a guiding light whose voice is laced with wisdom and courage.

Nigeria has lost a true patriot and a strong voice for justice.

Ogbuku said the visit was a demonstration of the NDDC’s commitment to standing with the people of the Niger Delta in times of joy and sorrow.

The head of the Clark Family, Prof College Clark, appreciated Ogbuku’s visit and thanked him for his support and solidarity.

He commended the NDDC delegation for sharing in their pains, stating that it demonstrated the love they have for those who contributed to building the Niger Delta region.
