Court remands 9 alleged cultists for attempted murder

BADAGRY, Lagos – A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Badagry today remanded nine men at the Awarjigoh Correctional Facility over attempted murder and allegation of membership of unlawful cult group, the Eiye Confraternity.
The defendants of no fixed address are Dosunmu Sodiq (29), Oluwasegun Adekunle (37), Anthony Agosa (27), Adesoji Adekunle (35), Sehidu Olamide (25), Rasak Oyebanji (27), Oluwaseun Wusu (30), Soqid Edwin (29), and Keji Okunade (37).
They were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Lazarus Hotepo on a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful association, and attempted murder.
According to Prosecutor, ASP Ayodele Adeosun, the defendant committed the offences on January 19 at about 9:00 a.m. at the Ibiye Community, off the Badagry Expressway in Lagos.
The defendants were accused of conspiring to engage in criminal activities and being members of the notorious Eiye Confraternity.
Furthermore, Adeosun told the court that the accused attempted to murder one Abayomi Atoki by stabbing him, leaving him with a fractured skull and a bruised face, contrary to sections 411, 42, and 230 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws of 2015.
Chief Magistrate Hotepo ordered the remand of the defendants after they pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them by the Police. The trial Magistrate adjourned the case to March 7 for mention.
