Sanwo-Olu’ man jailed for defilement

 

IKEJA Lagos – A civil servant working for the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led Lagos State Government has been committed to life imprisonment for having intimate knowledge of a 15 year old minor.

The worker, Ramon Amure (47) is attached to the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corp.

Justice Rahman Oshodi convicted and sentenced Amure to life imprisonment after he found him guilty of the offence of defilement.

The Lagos State government has filed two counts bordering on defilement and an attempt to procure abortion against the convict.The convict was arraigned on July 28, 2021.

During his arraignment the state prosecuting counsel O. Aluko, told the court that Amure, committed the offences between December 2018 and March 2020.

Aluko said that the incident occurred at Okesuna Street in Lagos Island.

She said that Amure unlawfully had sexual intercourse with the 15- year- old girl.

The prosecutor also told the court that between March and July 2020, the convict gave the minor a drug called Mifegyne, to procure abortion.

According to Aluko, the offences committed contravened Sections 137, 142, (1),(2), of the criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.

However, Amure pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and trial commenced.

During trial the Prosecution called four witnesses, the survivor, her mother, a social worker and investigating Police officer who testified against the convict.

Amure testified solely for his defence.

While delivering the judgment on Thursday, Justice Oshodi held that the Prosecution proved the case of defilement of a child but failed to prove the case of an attempt to procure abortion.

He said, “No medical expert was presented before the court to establish that the substance given to the victim was poisonous or obnoxious or capable of procuring an abortion.

“Ramoni Amure your conduct was grievous giving your position as a law enforcement officer with the Lagos state environmental sanitation corp, you abused the trust and intimidated the victim.

“I hereby sentence you to life imprisonment and your name shall be registered as a sex offender in the Lagos State register book”.
