TARABA, Nigeria – Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has decried the lack of a serious and effective master plan for the State, saying it has affected growth and development.

He said his administration is working round the clock to get a workable plan for the State that will elimate chaos in urban planning and enhance urban development.

The Governor in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, reiterated his promise to harness resources to jerk up the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)

He said that a master plan is pivotal for this to work better.

Kefas said that modern developmental models depend largely on such documents for direction.

At the moment, Taraba state has no master plan and attempts to get one in the past stalled. In addition, a recent survey showed that apart from Jalingo, the entire local governments have no master plans on which to benchmark urban planning and other related usage of a master plan”, he said .

The governor decried a situation that has seen Taraba State making blind permutations in the past without a workable document, adding that proper and efficient planning must be anchored on a blueprint of data and designs.

He, however, said that a consortium of professionals are currently working round the clock to come up with a master plan that will take into account a comprehensive mapping of the entire State because of the mineral deposits.

Kefas said, “This would have huge implications for road constructions, bridges, and rail lines. Modern cities can then emerge, showing clearly the demarcation between residential areas and business centers. Land allocation, signages, and economic zones can then be properly mapped out”, the Governor said.
