NCC gives MTN go ahead to disconnect Exchange Telecommunications Ltd

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC has given tacit approval to MTN Nigeria Communications Limited(MTN) to disconnect Exchange Communications Limited over its refusal to settle inter connection charges.

In a statement, Director Public Affairs, NCC, Mr. Reuben Mouka said Exchange was notified of MTN’s application for disconnection, adding that Exchange was also given opportunity to comment on the matter..

“The Commission having examined the application and circumstances surrounding the indebtedness, determined that Exchange does not have sufficient reason for non-payment of the interconnect charges”, he said in the statement.

Subsequently, the Commission, he said approved the Disconnection of  Exchange to MTN in accordance with section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003 and the guidelines on procedures for granting approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators, 2012.

He added that at the expiration of five days from the date of notice(Friday December 27, 2024), MTN will discontinue passing voice and data traffic through Exchange and will thereafter utilise alternative channels in interconnecting with other Network Service Providers.
