Adeleke moves to rescue man sentenced to death for stealing fowl

OSUN – Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has directed immediate investigation and pardoning action on the case of a young man reportedly sentenced to death by hanging in Osun state for stealing fowl.
Details about the young man are still sketchy, but in a statement on Tuesday evening, the Governor ordered the Attorney General to intervene in the matter and ensure that the young man is listed for prerogative of mercy before the end of the year.
“I have read about the case. I recognize separation of powers in our democracy. In this particular case,I have directed the Commissioner for Justice to initiate processes to grant prerogative of mercy to the young man.
“Osun is a land of justice and equity. We must ensure fairness and protection of the sanctity of lives. “I assure the public that the matter is receiving my direct attention. A sense of urgency is also attached to our response to the matter as a responsible state government”, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the state governor said in a statement.
According to reports, the young was a medical in 2010, when he was accused of stealing a fowl and arrested.
The DPO allegedly demanded 30,000 to release him, but his parents could only gather 20,000.
As a result, the boy spent 14 years in prison.
