MUNICH – World number one Jannik Sinner, second-ranked Alexander Zverev and fourth-placed Taylor Fritz have registered for the 2025 BMW Open in Munich, organizers said on Monday.
It could mean that the clay court tournament first held in 1899 and set for April 14-20 next year could feature a reigning number one player in the world for the first time.
“I am very happy to play in Munich for the first time. See you in April,” Sinner said in a tournament statement.
Italy’s Sinner won the Australian Open, US Open and ATP Finals en route to finishing 2024 atop the rankings for the first time in his career.
Zverev won the event in his native Germany in 2017 and 2018. He said the 2025 edition would be “an exciting new chapter” and that “I can’t wait to see the German fans again.”
American Fritz was runner-up in Munich this years, beaten by another German, Jan-Lennart Struff. He was also a finalist at the US Open and ATP Finals, losing against Sinner on both occasions.
The Munich tournament has been upgraded to an ATP 500 event and will boast a new centre court. It is among the first tune-up events for the French Open grand slam starting in late May.
