Israel confirms one major, 4 other soldiers killed in combat with Hamas in the Gaza Strip

GAZA – The Israeli Defence Forces, IDF has announced the death of five soldiers in the Gaza, among them a major, which is a Squad commander.

In a statement, IDF Spokesman,Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari listed the five soldiers as Major (Res.) Itamar Levin Fridman, aged 34, from Eilat. He was a squad commander in the ‘LOTAR Eilat’ Unit, fell during combat with Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip.

Others are Staff Sergeant Orr Katz, aged 20, from Ma’ale Adumim. He is a combat medic in the 92nd Battalion, Kfir Brigade.He died during combat with Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip.

Also included is Staff Sergeant Nave Yair Asulin, aged 21, from Carmit, a soldier in the 92nd Battalion, Kfir Brigade. He was killed during combat in the northern Gaza Strip.

Staff Sergeant Gary Lalhruaikima Zolat, aged 21, from Afula, a soldier in the 92nd Battalion, Kfir Brigade.He fell during combat in the northern Gaza Strip.

Staff Sergeant Ofir Eliyahu, aged 20, from Holon, a soldier in the 92nd Battalion, Kfir Brigade. He was killed during a combat with Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, “on Sunday during the passage of a convoy coordinated with the international community and monitored by the IDF, unusual movement was detected. The convoy was stopped for a security check at a checkpoint along the Humanitarian Route between northern and southern Gaza.

” During the inspection, IDF troops discovered a bag containing ammunition for firearms.

“IDF troops apprehended those involved, including members of the convoy, who were then transferred to security forces for further investigation”, the IDF said adding that inquiries were also made with the relevant organization.

“It is important to note that this was an internal convoy traveling inside the Gaza Strip from the north to the south, and not through the crossings designated for bringing humanitarian aid into Gaza”, the Spokesman said.
