TEHRAN – The Islamic Republic of Iran is now more vulnerable than ever after Israel’s retaliatory attacks on Tehran last Friday.

According to reports, Israel which deployed several jet fighters in the attacks, inflicted unquantifiable damages on Iranian air defense systems that protect very critical infrastructure that would take time to repair.

The report quoted three Israeli and Iranian officials. According to the report from the New York Times, Friday Night’s Operation by the Israeli Air Force targeted several Air defense sites which were charged with the protection of critical oil and petrochemical refineries, as well as a large gas field and a major port in Southern Iran.

The report alluded to the fact that multiple air defense systems were targeted and destroyed in the Khuzestan Province, including an S-300 Surface-to-Air Missile Battery, which provided aerial-coverage for the Bandar Imam Khomeini Petrochemical Complex, the major port of Bandar Imam Khomeini on the Arabian Gulf, and the Abadan Oil Refinery.

We gathered that additional systems were also attacked in the Ilam Province, near the Tange Bijar Gas Refinery.

From the the report, Iranian officials informed that the attack has become a source of worry in government and military circles, as critical energy and economic hubs are now seen as vulnerable to future attacks, either from Israel or the United Stated.

Speaking on the retaliatory attacks, Vaez, an Analyst with the Crisis Group’s Iran Project, said that the strikes were nothing more than a “preamble” to much more effective strikes against Iran’s Infrastructure and nuclear sites.

He added that Iran does not have the capacity to replace these damaged systems on the short run, leaving them vulnerable to any future retaliatory attacks.
