JEDDAH-Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha had warned of the seriousness of attempts by Israel, the occupying power, to eliminate the presence and role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The OIC scribe raised the alarm following unprecedented attacks and destruction of UNRWA facilities in Gaza, considering the development a violation of its obligations under the United Nations Charter and its relevant resolutions.
This was communicated through letters sent by the OIC Secretary-General to the Foreign Ministers of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and the current presidents of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, in which he stressed the importance of the vital role played by UNRWA in providing basic services to Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, including East Al-Quds, and especially the Gaza Strip, given the tragic circumstances they are witnessing.
The OIC Secretary-General, in these letters, also called for pressure on Israel, the occupying power, to stop its ongoing illegal measures against UNRWA.
