BERLIN – Members of Germany’s hard-left Die Linke (The Left) party has elected the journalist Ines Schwerdtner and former member of the German lower house of parliament Jan van Aken as the party’s new leaders.
The new leadership duo was chosen at a national party conference in the eastern German city of Halle on Saturday.
The party is in an existential crisis following the split of the wing around former parliamentary group leader Sahra Wagenknecht.
At the moment, the party is polling at three to four percent.
