FG scraps Niger Delta, sports ministry, merges 3 others

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government has scrapped the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development.

The Federal Government also created another ministry, the Ministry of Regional Development.

It also merged three other ministries.

The Federal Government arrived at the decision today during the Federal Executive Council, FEC meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

“A new ministry has been created to oversee all regional development commissions, which include: Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, North East Development Commission and South East Development Commission”, FEC said in a statement.

The National Sports Commission will now take over issues related to sports development in Nigeria.

“This commission now takes over the responsibilities of the former Ministry of Sports Development”, the Presidency said.

FEC also merged some Ministry.

“The Ministry of Tourism is merged with the Ministry of Culture and Creative) Economy”.
