GAZA- A small military aircraft conveying officers of the Israeli Defence Forces, IDF has crashed in Gaza leaving many on board dead.
Initial reports of the incident said all 11 soldiers on board perished when the aircraft crashed in the Philadelphia axis between Rafah and Egypt.
Israeli media are however reporting that only three soldiers died, eight injured and four in critical condition.
Although the cause of the crash is still being investigated, Palestinian media sources are reporting that the aircraft was hovering in Gaza when a SAM 7 missile was fired at it, causing the plane to fall heavily to the ground.
There is no official confirmation from the IDF Spokesman, Daniel Hagari on the incident, which occurred less than 48 hours after three Israelis were killed in a shooting incident at a crossing between West Bank and Amman.
The shooter who was killed on the spot is said to have acted alone by authorities in Amman.
Meanwhile, the Joint IDF has announced that a joint IDF and ISA operation, soldiers from the 401st Brigade identified several Hamas cells operating drones in the Rafah area.
“The forces directed an IAF aircraft, which eliminated the terrorists. In the strike, the commander of Hamas’ Tel al-Sultan Battalion, Mahmoud Hamdan, and three additional company commanders from the battalion were eliminated.
“In these strikes, the chain of command of the Tel al-Sultan Battalion was eliminated, as well as dozens of additional terrorists from the battalion.
Mahmoud Hamdan, the commander of the Tel al-Sultan Battalion, played a significant role in planning the invasion into Israel on October 7th and advanced the Rafah Brigade’s plans prior to the entry of IDF troops into the area. Additionally, he initiated, led, and planned dozens of terrorist operations against IDF troops and the State of Israel”, the IDF said.
