MUNICH – Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has suffered no serious injury which raises hopes that he can be fit to play in the Champions League on Wednesday at Aston Villa.
The England captain took a knock to his ankle late in Saturday’s 1-1 draw between the Bundesliga leaders and champions Bayer Leverkusen and was substituted.
Bayern said in a brief statement: “Examinations by the club’s medical unit on Sunday determined a positive development. Kane will continue to receive appropriate treatment.”
The statement did not say whether he would be fit for Wednesday but Kane and coach Vincent Kompany had expressed optimism post-match.
“It hurts a little bit. But I think it’s okay. It doesn’t feel that bad. We’ll have a look at it over the next few days. But I think I’ll be there,” Kane said.
Kompany said “I hope he can play against Aston Villa on Wednesday.”
Kane has scored 10 goals in seven matches in all competitions this season, including four in their Champions League opener against Dinamo Zagreb which they won 9-2.
