Why Germans are losing faith in their education system

BERLIN – Germans are losing faith in their education system, a study revealed on Wednesday. Only 49% of respondents rated German education as good or very good, down from 56% in 2020 and 70% in 2018.

The survey, conducted by the Allensbach Institute for Demoscopy for the Deutsche Telekom Foundation, said 80% of German residents believe politicians do not sufficiently prioritize education.

More than 90% of respondents agreed that a strong education system is important for Germany’s democracy.

According to the survey, only 25% of residents believe that the German education system provides equal educational opportunities for all children, while only 11% think it prepares students well for working life.
