Macron under fire over detention of Pavel Durov, Telegram boss in France
PARIS, France – French President, Emmanuel Macron has come under severe criticism following the arrest and detention of Telegram Chief Executive Officer, Pavel Durov.
Pavel Durov was arrested immediately he landed at the Le Bourget Airport in Paris from a private jet.
He has been in detention in France in the last 48 hour for allegedly allowing his platform to be used to promote activities that France and its allies consider to be terrorist activities.
Speaking on the arrest and detention, leader of the Les Patriotes Party, Philippot slammed the Macron government, describing it as “lunatics” over the detention of the Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov.
“France offers its tyrannical face to the world,” Philippot said on X.
“We must free ourselves from these lunatics,” he added, referring to Macron’s government.
The politician also wondered if X owner and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX “Elon Musk will also be arrested if he sets foot in France, for disobeying the European DSA censorship regulations.
Meanwhile France has extended the detention of Telegram founder for another 48 hours, according to reports from La Provence and AFP.
We gathered that the deadline for a decision on his fate is now set at 96 hours, after which the judge must either charge him or release him.
