Borussia sacks Christopher Kramer
BERLIN – Borussia Mönchengladbach, a football club in Bundesliga first division has agreed to end Christopher Kramer’s contract in advance and with immediate effect, the club said on Friday.
After lengthy negotiations, the club terminated the player’s contract, which was to run until June 2025. Kramer will leave after a total of 10 years at the club.
“I arrived at Borussia-Park with a smile on my face every day for the last 10 years, and made no secret of what the club, the fans and the staff meant to me,” he said.
“It was an incredible journey with Borussia. Unfortunately, it’s now come to an end, but I’m looking forward to what lies ahead for me.”
Kramer initially joined Gladbach on a two-year loan in 2013 from Bayer Leverkusen, before rejoining the team on a permanent basis in 2016.
Since 2018, he’s been also working as a pundit during Euros and World Cups for German broadcasters ZDF.
“Chris became a key figure within our club during this time and he was one of the figures that really shaped Borussia Mönchengladbach in recent years, for which we would like to thank him,” sporting director Roland Virkus said.
“Now, it’s up to Chris to determine where his next steps will take him. As a club, we will keep several options open to him and would be extremely pleased if he sees a future for himself at Borussia.”
The midfielder, however, has had a difficult time under Gladbach coach Gerardo Seoane. Last season, he only place 16 games and just twice was in the starting line-up.
Ahead of the new season, he had already be informed that he wouldn’t get more playing time.
