Tokyo medallist Trippel gets late call-up to German Paris judo team

BERLIN – Judoka Eduard Trippel has been handed a late spot in the German Olympic team in Paris, a statement said on Tuesday.

The German Olympic Sports Confederation had already announced its contingent for the July 26-August 11 Games but Trippel has been added after overcoming injury problems.

He won silver in the individual category up to 90 kilograms and team bronze at the Olympic Games in Tokyo three years ago.

In addition to Trippel, seven other extra athletes have been nominated for the German Olympic team.

This brings the total number of German athletes in Paris to 470, of which 44 are reserve starters.
