Gaza :62 more dead bodies uncovered at Al-Shifa as Israel opens Kerem Shalom Crossing
GAZA – The Civil Defence Corps in Gaza says it has uncovered 62 more dead bodies at Al-Shifa Hospital after the initial discovery of over 400 dead bodies in mass graves in the same hospital and another in Gaza.
In a statement, the Civil Defence said the bodies were exumed after an extensive search around Al-Shifa Hospital.
Civil Defence said the 62 decomposed bodies where of children, women and that many of them were patients in another mass graves.
“It’s another crime from the heinous acts of the occupation that we rediscovered today.
” We buried them elsewhere on the same day. We will not forget these scenes; they are etched in our memories and hearts.
“Every day we witness painful scenes, and we say there cannot be anything harder than this, yet the following day, we see something even harder”, the Civil Defence said.
The bodies were discovered just as Israel said it has opened the Kerem Shalom Crossing which it closed, engendering international outrage.
“Today (Wednesday), the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) announced the re-opening of the Kerem Shalom Crossing for the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip”, the Israeli Defence Forces, IDF said.
It added that this follows its closure due to rocket fire by the Hamas l toward the area of the crossing.
“Trucks from Egypt carrying humanitarian aid, including food, water, shelter equipment, medicine, and medical equipment donated by the international community are already arriving at the crossing.
“After a thorough security inspection by the security personnel of the Ministry of Defense Crossing Authority, the equipment will be transferred to the Gazan side of the crossing.
“In parallel to the re-opening of the Kerem Shalom Crossing, the Erez Crossing is continuing to operate to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip following security checks in Israel, as it did while the Kerem Shalom Crossing was closed due to attacks by the Hamas terrorist organization”, IDF said.
It added that COGAT updated the U.S. government and international organizations regarding the re-opening of the Kerem Shalom Crossing.
