Fear grips US lawmakers over likely arrest warrant on Netanyahu, war cabinet
THE HAGUE – There is palpable fear among lawmakers in the United States over reports that the International Criminal Court, ICC will issue arrest warrants any time from now on Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu and his war cabinet over their complicity in ongoing genocide in Gaza.
So far the Israeli war machine has killed 34,454 Palestinians, 77, 575 others injured among those killed are over 14,000 children, apart from unprecedented destruction in Gaza since October 7 when Hamas carried out an attack on Israel killing 1, 139 Israel. Video footage have also emerged of the occupation forces killing unarmed civilians walking in the Gaza Strip.
Mass graves with over 400 bodies have also been uncovered in two hospitals with children, medical personnels and women with evidence of summary execution. Some with organs already stolen.
All this evidence, are among what is fueling fears in Israel and in the United States that the ICC which in the past issued arrest warrant on President Vladimir Putin of Russia for forcefully moving children from Ukraine to Russia following the invasion will issue similar warrant on Netanyahu and his war cabinet.
We gathered that senior congressional leaders in the US have warned the ICC against such a warrant, warning that the United State could retaliate with legislation to cut funding to the ICC.
US House Speaker Mike Johnson described such an arrest warrant as “disgraceful” “baseless and illegitimate arrest warrants” for alleged war crimes against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi.
According to him, “such a lawless action by the ICC would directly undermine US national security interests,” Johnson.
“If unchallenged by the Biden administration, the ICC could create and assume unprecedented power to issue arrest warrants against American political leaders, American diplomats, and American military personnel, thereby endangering our country’s sovereign authority.”
