NEW YORK – The United Nations, UN today passed a resolution after so many failed attempts demanding for immediate ceasefire and release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip.
Fourteen members of the UNSC voted in favour of the resolution , while the United States abstained from voting because the resolution did not condemn Hamas for the October 7 attack on Israel, leading to about 1, 137 deaths.
Experts say the United States has so far vetoed 47 security council resolutions against Israel since the establishment of the UN.
Just as the UN was voting, the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyanwu threatened to pull away from sending delegations to Washington to brief President Joe Biden if it fails to veto the resolution on Gaza.
The Israeli delegation was to brief Biden on its grand offensive in Rafah, which Vice President of the US, Kamala Haris said should not be done since there are available places to push about 1.2 million Palestinians in the area. She said she has looked at the map of Rafah and feels Israel should not go ahead with the offensive.
