German wiretap scandal: Conversation was on Taurus missile, Crimea bridge- Reports

 

UKRAINE – There are indications that the intercepted conversation between the German Air Force centred on the possibility of training Ukrainian personnel in Germany for the Taurus mission, the American and British military operating in the territory of Ukraine and the ability of Taurus missile to destroy the Crimean bridge, local reports in Ukraine have said.

According to local media, the conversation of the German Air Force officers was intercepted through an unsecured communication channel.

The affected officer who is now undergoing discipline was stationed in Singapore and allegedly used an unscrambled channel when talking on the platform.

“Because of this, there was a data leak”, German Minister of Defence, Boris Pistorius has said.

Pistorious said Russia most likely intercepted the military call by accident, rather than with the help of a spy or compromised German systems.

“Mostly all German communication systems are reliable”, but now security will be significantly strengthened”, the official added.

The minister however called the publication of this conversation by the Russians “a sneaky game by Putin” and a “hybrid attack.”

He said disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against  participants in the conversation.
