See any failure as a first attempt at learning and should not create frustration – JAMB registrar

AWKA, Anambra – The Registrar of Joint  Admissions and Matriculation Board JAMB Prof Is-haq Oloyede  on Wednesday said that the Academic are being mocked because they have fallen short of standard and traditions .

Oloyede who delivered the Nnamdi Azikiwe University 17th  Convocation Lecture  titled “Mainstreaming Uncertainty: Getting Ready For The University of Life”  said many academic traditions  are suffering  violently because of  the  loss of   traditions in the country.

“People will describe us as   making academic exercise because we are  no longer  following the traditions” he said 

According to him, what we have as a convocation lecture is called commencement lecture, meant to equip fresh graduates for challenges of life.

The University of Ilorin Vice Chancellor said that most convocation lecturers, instead of addressing the freshers on the challenges of life they will be  talking about  things that have no relevance to them .

“Right from the topic of the lecture,you will know it is not a commencement lecture. Somebody talking about University development/ funding ,what concerns a fresh student with that? How can somebody be talking about climate change to fresh graduates who are moving into the world of uncertainty. Convocation lectures should be  personal experiences which are  inspirational to the new graduates to face challenges of life” he said. 

To the graduating students, he urged them to face the uncertainty of  life  with courage,focus and hard work.

 

According to him,the world is full of uncertainty and the only way is to remain focused, seek support and have proper education of what one wants in life.

“Mainstreaming uncertainty is about putting the unpredictability of the  contemporary time into consideration while making plans  and decisions. This is why it is imperative to appreciate not  putting all one’s eggs in one basket in the university of life and having a plan B in every situation as things do not often go according to plans ” he said.

He urged them to see any failure as a first attempt at learning and should not create frustration or depression to them .

According to him, the end of any thing is not actually the end,it means efforts never end and   rejections or no that  you   may encounter actually suggest next opportunity in your life 

“You must begin to see beyond the now. The complex and meticulous process of carving a niche for yourself must begin by understanding life as a progression from known to unknown. We must commit to transformation and changes that meet the demands of the contemporary age. Life keeps evolving and you find yourself in the context of knowing that as problems change,we need to find new solutions. This should be done through a positive and instructive cascade of communication.

In essence ,in the university of life, be desirous, have a dream. Be driven, be determined, be disciplined and be dedicated to noble causes. Then avoid distractions and focus on the keys ” he advised
