Massive failure as 3,963 teachers fail qualifying examination
ABUJA, Nigeria – Not less than 27.1 percent, about 3,963 teachers have failed the 2023 Professional Qualifying Examination, Registrar of the Teachers Registration Council, TCN, Professor Josiah Ajiboye has revealed.
Ajiboye who was speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja explained that 15, 753 teachers sat for the November 2023 examination.
“Out of the 15,753 teachers who participated across 38 examination centers nationwide, a significant 27.1%—amounting to 3,963 educators—did not pass the examination”, he said.
The purpose of this examination, as emphasized by Ajiboye, was to assess the professional knowledge and competence of teachers within the educational sector. Highlighting the results, he stated, “We witnessed 10,636 successful candidates, which accounts for approximately 72.9%, while unfortunately, 3,963 individuals did not meet the passing criteria.”
Ajiboye expressed concern over the absence of some candidates during the examination and the cancellation of results for others due to instances of examination malpractice. He assured a commitment from the council to continually strive towards enhancing the teaching profession’s standards and quality across Nigeria.
