Nigerians stranded, take long walk as labour cripples Abuja airport
ABUJA, Nigeria – Most Nigerians desiring to use the Abuja International Airport were today stranded as labour, the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC moved to enforce ban on flights to and fro Imo State in Abuja.
Labour took the decision, following the refusal of the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma to honour the demands of workers in the state, compounded by the decision of the governor to send his thugs in company of policemen to abduct and brutalize President of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero.
Among the demands of labour is for Hope Uzodimma to carry out an Independent medical examination of wounded Joe Ajaero, treat him and pay for his medical bills.
Never in history has leadership of the NLC being so brutalised, not even under the military.
Other demands of labour include payment of workers’ salary arrears, redeployment of Imo Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Inspector General of Police in the zone, all of whom labour alleged are on the pay roll of Hope Uzodimma.
To effect the strike, Union officials blocked the road leading to the Abuja Airport, making commuters stranded.
Many decided to embark on long walk to their destinations.
