LAGOS – Labour, the Nigerian Labour Congress NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC has suspended the indefinite strike it embarked upon following the brutalisation of President of the NLC Comrade Joe Ajaero by thugs loyal to the Imo State Governor, HE, Hope Uzodimma.
It is the first time that an NLC leader would be brutalised, not even under the military.
In a joint statement Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja General Secretary, NLC and Comrade Nuhu Toro, General Secretary, TUC said the strike was suspended after a meeting with delegation of the Federal government.
Labour said government has made extensive promises and would need time to facilitate further discussions after meeting crucial demands of the union.
The statement added that the National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu has apologised in behalf of the Imo State Government.
Besides, it added that the principal suspect that brutalised Ajaero has been arrested and that others will be fished out.
