ABUJA, Nigeria – National Chairman of Labour Party, (LP) Julius Abure, has emphatically called for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s electoral system to fortify democracy and rebuild trust among the populace in the political system.
Abure made this resounding plea during a courtesy visit by LP members from the National Assembly to the party’s Secretariat in Abuja.
“This visit underscores our unity as a formidable opposition party. We are grateful for retaining our strength in the House. I, too, face similar challenges,” Abure remarked.
“As the emblem of the people, abandoning them is not an option. Many have suffered, losing lives and livelihoods, and you have become their voice. I urge you to persist in your commitment.”
“In this region, opposition is often misunderstood. Yet, it is the bedrock of democracy. A robust opposition is indispensable for democratic sustenance.”
“You represent a new dawn. In our party’s journey ahead, an overhaul of the electoral system is imperative. A holistic reform is needed.”
“With your support, LP will spearhead mobilization efforts. Political education is vital. Leadership isn’t the sole issue; followership also poses challenges. The party stands in solidarity with your endeavors.”
George Ozodinobi, Deputy House Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, who led the delegation, highlighted LP’s remarkable transformation under Mr. Peter Obi’s leadership within just eight months.
“Our delayed visit, due to court cases, is a mark of gratitude to Obi, the National Working Committee, and LP for providing us this platform.
“In a span of 8 to 9 months, Obi’s leadership achieved an astounding feat, revitalizing a party without a substantial structure, shaking the country’s political landscape.”
