Kaizer Chiefs junior teams crowned SAFA Gauteng Development League Champions
CAPE TOWN, South Africa -In a remarkable achievement, the young talents of Kaizer Chiefs Under 13s have completed an undefeated season in the South African Football Association (SAFA) Gauteng Development League (GDL).
Their journey culminated in a 4-1 victory over TS Galaxy (Under 13s) at the Village last weekend. Notably, the Chiefs Under 15s mirrored this success by clinching their championship title with the same scoreline.
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Chiefs on the final weekend of the season. The Under 17s suffered a disappointing 4-1 defeat at the ETS Sports Ground, and the Under 19s were also bested in their last match with a 2-1 scoreline.
But the Chiefs had reason to celebrate in Chatsworth, located south of Durban, as their Reserves emerged victorious in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) against Golden Arrows, securing a thrilling 3-2 win. Both teams had their moments in the game, but the Glamour Boys managed to land the decisive blow.
With this win, the Chiefs Reserves maintain their position in third place with 17 points after eight rounds, sitting just three points behind the league leaders. Their next challenge will be a home fixture against Richards Bay on Saturday, 4 November, with the kickoff scheduled for 10:00.
Kaizer Chiefs stands as Southern Africa’s premier football club, supported by an immense fan base that spans across the SADC region. The Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development Academy plays a crucial role in nurturing young talent, offering free training to players in various age groups, including under-13, under-15, under-17, under-19, and the Reserve Team.
The club places a strong emphasis on maintaining high standards of excellence during training, instilling a sense of discipline and development in its players. Some of these promising talents are housed at the state-of-the-art KC Village in Naturena, where they receive guidance and support from dedicated house parents.
Rather than holding open trials, the Academy primarily scouts young players from all corners of the country and extends invitations for further assessment. This approach ensures that the most promising talents have the opportunity to flourish within the Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development program.
