DAR ES SALAAM – Nigeria and Tanzania U20 girls battled to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup African qualifiying series second round fixture in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.
After a scoreless first period, substitute Chioma Olise put Nigeria in front three minutes before the hour mark at the Azam Sports Complex in Tanzania’s commercial and industrial capital.
The home girls responded 13 minutes later when Asnath Ubamba fired home from a free kick, to which Nigeria’s goalkeeper Anderlin Mgebchi had no answer.
Both teams fought hard to establish superiority at the tail end of the encounter on the artificial turf, but the scoreline remained the same.
The Falconets will return to Nigeria on Tuesday with high expectations to overpower the Tanzanians when both teams clash in the second leg on Sunday, 19th November.
2026 World Cup Race: Delegation of Crocodiles storms Lagos on Monday
The delegation of Lesotho’s senior men national team, known as Likuena (Crocodiles) for Thursday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifying series Day 1 encounter with the Super Eagles of Nigeria will arrive in Lagos on Monday night aboard a Kenyan Airways flight.
Thenff.com can reveal that the delegation will sleep over in Lagos, and then fly into Uyo on Tuesday morning where players and officials will be accommodated at the Ibom Hotel and Resorts.
The match officials, including the contingent of Tunisian referees, are also expected to arrive in Uyo on Tuesday ahead of Thursday’s battle.
Officials of the Super Eagles have already arrived in the Akwa Ibom State capital, with the players expected to start trooping into town on Monday.
