How Mohbad died – Police investigation
IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – At last, the mystery surrounding the death of fast rising musician, Ilereoluwa Oladimeji Promise Aloba, better known as Mohbad seems to have been resolved by the Nigerian Police Force.
Speaking to the media in Lagos, Commissioner of Police, Lagos, CP Idowu Owohunwa identified the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo kate Ogedengbe who treated Mohbad in his Lekki home as the principal suspect.
The auxiliary nurse, according to him, administered a combination of drugs including tetanus injection, paracetamol and tetrazone injections intravenously that resulted in the death of the musician.
“She is the principal suspect, she admitted that it was the injections she administered (Tetanous, paracetamol and tetrazone) that immediately triggered reaction, vomiting, goosebumps and convulsion that resulted in the death of Mohbad”, Owohunwa said. He explained that investigation revealed that the auxiliary nurse was trained at Coralbed Hospital Akute and that she has no job, works as a freelance nurse and administered her treatment in a non-medical environment.
“As an auxiliary nurse, she is not qualified and she administered treatment in a non clinical environment. Ayobami, who invited the auxiliary nurse, is suspect on conspiracy, for inviting a person known to him as an auxiliary nurse. He is being held for conspiracy”, Owohunwa added.
He said Azeez Fashola alias Naira Marley, Samson Eletu alias Sam Larry, Owodunni Ibrahim Oluwatosin better known as PrimeBoy, a friend of Mohbad and others are secondary suspects arrested based on video evidence and allegations in the public domain of assaults and bully levelled against them.
“Investigation also focused on the complicity of Naira Marley and Sam Larry, widely alleged to have conspired to assault the deceased”. Brimo, a childhood friend of Mohbad, fought with him during the show and Mohbad was beaten and he is being treated as a suspect. According to him, during the fight, Mohbad hit the rear glass of a vehicle resulting in injury to his hand, necessitating the treatment and consequent death.
He said a total of 26 witnesses were interviewed by the police during the two weeks investigation, including Mohbad’s father, mother, siblings, his DJ, Personal photographer and others.
Also interviewed is a co-musician, Onomiyi Temidayo who also performed at Ikorodu Ikorodu and Soso Sobereko, who invited Mohbad to promote his product, Genera Bitters in the Ikorodu music jam.
Detectives, he said also interrogated Engineer Chilaka Jesse, Mohbad’s neighbour whose vehicle was used to convey him to the hospital when he became unconscious.
Also interviewed was Dr. Olusola Joshua, the CMD of Duramed Hospital Lekki where Mohbad was initially taken to and confirmed dead and the CMD of Perez Medicare Hospital, Dr. Ogbuala Chigozie, where Dr. Beke Deborah Oluwatosin, who was on duty recertified Mohbad dead on arrival.
He said investigation at Duramed Hospital and Perez Medicare Hospital, all in Lekki led the team to Mohbad’s home to review CCTV footage but that they were not in order, nevertheless syringes and injections were retrieved.
He said that the Ikorodu show took place on the 10th of September, while Mohbad died on the 12 of September and was buried the next day.
